Get More From Your Pod Vaping System With These 5 Tips
If you vape, we have a bit of information for you that you’ve probably suspected for years: There’s nothing particularly cool about sucking on a box mod. People didn’t start using enormously powerful vaping devices to look good; box mods became popular because nothing else truly satisfied people with serious nicotine needs. Now that pod vaping systems and nicotine salt e-liquids exist, though, it’s a different story; real smokers can get all of the satisfaction they need from a sleek device that fits in any pocket and doesn’t create its own weather systems with enormous clouds.
You can’t enter a vape shop these days without finding a shelf full of pod systems in various shapes and sizes. Although box mods will always be popular within a certain subset of the vaping community, it’s obvious that pod systems have achieved real mainstream success and have become permanent parts of the tapestry of vaping. So, are you thinking about buying your first vape or ditching your big mod in favor of something a bit sleeker? Whether you’re new to vaping in general – or just new to pod systems – this article is for you. Use these tips to get the most from your pod system.
Buy a System With Refillable Pods
You can find an ample selection of pod vaping systems both at vape shops and at traditional tobacco retailers. There’s a major difference, though, in the types of systems that you’ll find at those retailers. Tobacco sellers carry pod systems either manufactured or financially supported by major tobacco companies. Those devices use pre-filled pods, and in the United States, pre-filled pods are only available in two flavors – tobacco and menthol – due to legal restrictions. Bottled e-liquid, on the other hand, is available in any flavor you like, so a refillable pod system is easily the best option if you want to experience the full variety of flavors possible with vaping. Refillable pod systems work with hundreds of different e-liquid flavors; pre-filled systems work with just two flavors.
The variety of available flavors isn’t the only feature that makes refillable pod systems better than pre-filled ones; refillable systems are also significantly less expensive to use. Compare the price of a pack of JUUL pods, for example, to the price of a bottle of e-liquid; you’ll find that they’re about the same. A pack of JUUL pods, however, lasts for four days at the most. A 30 ml bottle of nicotine salt e-liquid, on the other hand, contains the equivalent of nearly 43 JUUL pods at roughly the same price. You’ll also need to buy replacement pods for your device, of course, but you can refill those several times before you’ll need to replace them.
Use Nicotine Salt E-Liquid for Maximum Satisfaction
You’ll see two different types of e-liquid when you browse the selection at your local vape shop. Those two types are freebase nicotine e-liquid and nicotine salt e-liquid. The former typically has lower nicotine strengths ranging down from 18 mg to nicotine free, and the latter usually has a nicotine strength ranging up from 20-50 mg. While freebase nicotine e-liquid has an alkaline form of nicotine that can be irritating to the throat at high concentrations, nicotine salt e-liquid has a more neutral pH and is easier to inhale at high strengths. If you want your pod system to deliver the same level of satisfaction that you’d get from a tobacco cigarette, you need to fill it with nicotine salt e-liquid.
Avoid Sweetened Vape Juice
Refillable pod systems are only more affordable than pre-filled pod systems if you reuse the pods several times. If your pods only last through one or two uses before they begin to taste burned, you’ll end up spending a fortune on replacement pods.
The sweetener sucralose is the top reason why vape coils stop working before they should. That’s because sucralose caramelizes and sticks to the atomizer coil of a vaping device rather than turning to vapor like the other ingredients in e-liquid. In a very short time, the layer of sucralose residue thickens and begins to burn. Sucralose residue produces a burnt sugar flavor at first. When the residue burns, it causes throat discomfort. There is no fix for sucralose residue except to replace the coil or pod.
Sweetened e-liquid may taste as sweet as candy, but it reduces the life of a vaping coil to a fraction of what it could be.
Refill Your Pods Before They’re Empty
Sweetened e-liquid isn’t the only thing that can condemn a vape coil to an early death; a burned wick can kill a pod even more quickly than that. A vape pod has a cotton or silica wick that draws e-liquid from the pod’s reservoir to the atomizer coil. Silica is extremely resistant to heat, but the heat from an atomizer coil can easily burn a cotton wick – and that can happen in an instant if you forget to refill a pod.
A vape pod always has a translucent exterior that you can use to check your e-liquid supply. If your vaping device doesn’t have a window allowing you to see the pod, remove the pod periodically to see how much e-liquid is left. Refill the pod when the e-liquid no longer covers the wick; don’t wait until the pod is completely empty, or you’ll end up with a burned wick and a ruined pod.
Try CBD Vaping – But Use E-Liquid, Not Oil
CBD is the hottest supplement in the world these days, and one of the most popular ways to use CBD is by vaping it because inhaled CBD enters the bloodstream immediately. You can vape CBD in your pod system, but you must keep an important thing in mind when doing that. You can’t vape straight CBD oil or any CBD vaping product with oil added. That’s because inhaling oil has a high risk of causing lipoid pneumonia. Look for a CBD e-liquid that’s diluted with propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin rather than oil.
