Vaporizers, also known as vape pens, vape mods, hookah pens, e-cigs etc. are creations of modern technology that act as an alternative to smoking with a flame. Portable vaporizers are typically made up of three main parts; a battery, a tank, and an atomizer. A vape mod is when you begin to mix and match these components.

The battery is used to power the atomizer
The vape pen tank holds the e-liquid (aka cartomizer, clearomizer, dripping atomizer, RBA - we go over what each of these means below)
The atomizer is what heats up the liquid and turns it into vapor (the heating elements)

Liquid vape pens come with all three components and are as the name suggests about the size of a pen. Vape pen mods is a term used to describe a vape pen that is on steroids (one you compile). It has become increasingly more popular to build and customize your own super vape pen. Liquid vape pens and vape pen mods both fall under the umbrella of portable liquid vaporizers. Defining the Term Vape Pen Tanks:

The term vape pen tanks may be confusing to some readers. A vape pen 'tank' is an umbrella term used interchangeably with clearomizer, cartomizer, glassomizer, and tank system. The are all pretty similar and have the same overall function (house and heat e-liquid). They do however differ in size, quality and what you are able to do with them.

Understanding what a Cartomizer Is

Usually, the term cartomizer refers to an atomized cartridge (a container that will heat up). It either arrives filled with e-liquid or is empty and you will fill it yourself. Cartomizers are about the size of and look like the cap of a thin marker. Once you have filled the cartomizer with your preferred e-liquid you will screw it onto your vape pen battery and vape away. Cartomizers are not very expensive, in fact they are pretty cheap, costing around $5 to $20. Cartomizers hold a smaller amount of liquid than a clearomizer, and more than a dripping atomizer. Understanding what a Clearomizer (Glassomizer) is

A clearomizer is pretty much the same thing as a cartomizer, but usually there is at least a small area of the casing that is clear so you can still see the e-liquid inside. A glassomizer is the same as a clearomizer but instead of being constructed out of plastic it is made of glass. If you hear the term RBA (re-build-able atomizer) it also refers to this type of tank system. Clearomizers/Glassomizers/RBA's are more customizable than a cartomizer.

Understanding what a Dripping Atomizer is

An Atomizer or Dripping Atomizer is a term that can refer to a tank that only holds a few drops of e-liquid. This type of tank system works well if you're the type of vape enthusiast that has a bunch of different flavors of e-liquids and you like to use them interchangeably like a buffet.

Many vape enthusiasts prefer to use glass over plastic. This is because glass delivers a smoother and cleaner vapor taste. Glass is also longer lasting, sturdy, and stays tidier than plastic vape pen tanks.

A tank system is a term used when a tank is fully customizable. A tank system is rebuildable in all areas, you can interchange the wicks, replace the coils, change cartmizers and so forth. The tan system is a tube with a cartomizer/clearomizer inserted in the middle. Usually a tank system is used for larger more powerful battery mods.

What is e-liquid for vape pen tanks and mods?

E-liquid, or vape juice is the substance that liquid vaporizers need in there tanks. E-Liquid is comes in over 7000 different flavors and is the substance that you fill your vape pen tank with. The most popular flavors of e-liquids are traditional tobacco, menthol, fruit flavored, energy drink flavored, sweet dessert flavored and pretty much every other type of delicious flavor known to man kind. E-liquid come's with or without nicotine, most vape juice's have the option to come nicotine free or as a certain percentage of nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive substance and should be kept away from adolescence. If you are attempting to quit smoking cigarettes or lower the amount of nicotine you consume, a portable vaporizer is a good option to consider when trying to accomplish this.

Other than nicotine, e-liquid is made up of two main ingredients; vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol. Vegetable glycerin is sugar alcohol compounds that is used also in liqueurs and frostings. Propylene glycol is a synthetic organic compound you would typically find in products such as ice cream and pop. Due to the fact that these products are in a unregulated market it is important to make sure you purchase your e-liquids from reputable sources. The quality control in under the counter products can not be assured and may contain unnecessary ingredients.
