What Is Marijuana Detoxification?

When you’ve taken marijuana, you’ll probably be aware that it can remain in your system for quite some time. This is usually not a problem as it will work its way through your body and leave through the normal channels. But sometimes you might need to make the progress go a little faster. There might be a test coming up which you have to attend, or you might be concerned about having too much of it in your system. The way to deal with this is to undergo marijuana detoxification or detox for short. In this article, I will take you through this process and what it means for you.

The Process

When you’d like to complete a marijuana detox quickly and effectively, you’ll need to know how it works. The way that most detox medication works is by masking the presence of THC in your urine. THC is tetrahydrocannabinol, and this is the chemical in marijuana that is responsible for the euphoric feeling that it can give you during recreational use. When you consume a detox medication, it will dilute your urine so that the THC is not flagged up during testing.

But that is not the only function of detox medication otherwise you could get the same results from drinking a bottle of water. They also replace other elements in your urine that may otherwise decrease in quantity when it is diluted. These include creatine and other vitamins commonly found in the body.

And often, your body will remove the THC by itself, but this is not always enough if you’re short on time or have more in your system than your body can remove in a single day. And that’s why you may want to go through this process.

How Long Will THC Remain

If you don’t choose to go through detox before a urine test, then you’ll likely fail the test. And the reason for that is because THC is fat-soluble, which means it binds to fat cells within the body and can remain there for a long time. However, there are also some other factors that influence the length of time.

These can include how much body fat you have, how often you smoke marijuana, and how much of it you smoke each time. The higher your amount of body fat, the more cells that are available for THC to bind to. And the more of it you consume in total and each time you smoke will determine whether you have a lot in your system or not so much. But you should also be aware that even if you control all of these, there is an external factor which you cannot control. And that’s the sensitivity of the test that you may undergo.

If it is very accurate and precise then you will have to detox for longer before the test, otherwise your efforts may go to waste. For example, if you smoke marijuana 3-4 times per week, the typical detection window is 5-7 days. But if you smoke it daily, the detection window could be 30 days or longer. So you will need to keep this in mind.

Conclusion

You will now be aware of the process that marijuana detoxification involves, and you will know how long you’ll need to be doing it to see the results. It could be as little as a few days, or as much as a month, and that will depend on all of the factors that I mentioned above. The best way to ensure you pass your test is to research the type of test you’re taking and start the detox with plenty of time in advance.
